East Baldwin, ME–Limington Lumber Co., headquartered here, recently received the 2017 Maine Forest Products Council (MFPC) Manufacturer of the Year Award.
Terry Walters, who is on the board for the MFPC, presented the award. Walters stated, “In addition to managing a quality sawmill operation, Win is active in the forestry community. He is a member of the Maine Forest Products Council Board of Directors. He is also involved in the Northeastern Lumber Manufacturers Association (NELMA), where he has served on many committees and in many capacities.”
During his acceptance speech, Smith noted, “I want to thank the Maine Forest Products Council. I really didn’t expect this award. We’re very honored to be nominated. A lot of the credit has to go to the employees that I have. I was very fortunate to be able to work with my dad for about 10 years before he retired, and I couldn’t have had a better mentor.”
Limington Lumber produces approximately 18 million board feet annually of Eastern White Pine (4/4 to 5/4, kiln-dried, surfaced to S4S and Pattern). All lumber is run through a Weinig moulder. The company specializes in mixed loads, as well as producing virtually every NELMA pattern. Containers for export are loaded on site.
Since 1961, the Maine Forest Products Council has been the voice of Maine’s forest products industry, including landowners, paper mills, sawmills, wood pellet plants, biomass energy plants, loggers, truckers, primary and secondary wood processors, and related service industries. The primary purpose of the Council is to provide a supportive economic and public policy climate for the forest products community and promote a healthier, more vital forestry sector.
